Thomas W. Dana, Jr. Scholarship and Signature Book Series Fund
The Thomas W. Dana, Jr. Scholarship and Signature Book Series Fund is established to provide Redhawk Publications with the necessary resources to facilitate projects that carry the Thomas W. Dana, Jr. imprint of Redhawk Publications’ products. The fund allows publications of works deemed in keeping with the importance of Mr. Dana’s place as the guiding light of what has become Catawba Valley Community College. Through his efforts were established an institution of higher learning that strives to excel in its mission of student success and lifelong learning through excellence in teaching, engagement with stakeholders and support of economic and workforce development. All of these goals are considered as works published by Redhawk Publications to bear the imprint of Thomas Dana, Jr. as an ongoing series begun by the fund.
Concurrent with the fund and apportioned equally is the “Thomas Dana, Jr. Industrial and Engineering Technology Program Scholarship,” an award presented annually to tworecipients @ $500 each for the fall and spring semesters who are enrolled in the Industrial and Engineering Technology program.
Scholarship Criteria:
Thomas Dana, Jr. worked at the General Electric transformer plant in Catawba County as the Director of Public and Employee Relations. He had a vision of needing a facility for industrial and technical training for the community and initiated the plans in 1958 to create the Catawba Valley Industrial Education Center that grew into the present-day Catawba Valley Community College. This scholarship was established in his honor by his son, Thomas Dana, III to help students in the Industrial and Engineering Technologies. Qualified candidates will be of high character, maintain a 2.75 GPA, demonstrate a commitment to academic success, and benefit from financial assistance.
