For many, being well-known or even famous is a clear sign of success. However, truth be told, a meaningful and successful life does not require either one. The truly successful and most influential among us are often those who avoid the limelight and live quietly hidden within the community. Though they may not be well known to some, their work has positively impacted many, and continues to resonate throughout the community long after their passing and even after they retire. They are the true pillars of the community. They are our Hidden Figures.

It is only fitting that during our celebration of Black History Month we take the time to showcase and honor a few of our Hidden Figures from Hickory’s Ridgeview and East Hickory communities. By bringing these stories forward we hope to shine light on the contributions of some of our amazing, yet unheralded residents.
