This biographical account follows the life and legacy of Charles Hardin, a dedicated photographer who moved to Hickory, North Carolina in 1900. With a deep passion for photography and a strong commitment to family, Hardin established a photography studio that would become a cornerstone of the local community. Alongside his wife, he built a thriving business that not only captured the faces and moments of Hickory’s residents but also documented the town’s transformation through the first half of the 20th century. Over the course of more than 80 years, Hardin’s studio became a trusted institution, preserving generations of memories and playing a key role in the visual history of Hickory, NC.
About the Author
Richard Eller is the author of 14 historical books, celebrated for his ability to bring the past to life through vivid storytelling and meticulous research. He currently serves as a history professor at Catawba Valley Community College and is also the executive director of Redhawk Publications, where he champions regional voices and historical narratives. Richard lives in Hickory, North Carolina, with his wife, and is a proud and doting grandfather.
